Cristina Cerami (CNRS, Sphère UMR 7219), Averroes on Natural Teleology with and against Galen.
Cristina Cerami is a research director at the CNRS. She is the author of Génération et substance: Aristote et Averroès entre physique et métaphysique (2015). She directs the CHSPAM center and is deputy director of the UMR 7219 Sphère. Her work focuses on Aristotle and the history of Arab Peripateticism, particularly Averroes. It aims to articulate logic, natural philosophy, and metaphysics in order to show, on the one hand, that the Aristotelian system and the reconstructions that have been proposed over the centuries cannot be understood without taking into account the real interaction between the work of transmission and translation of the text and its theoretical interpretation and, on the other hand, to show how the interpretation of the disciplines in question, particularly natural philosophy and metaphysics, conditioned the very definition of demonstration among Arab Peripatetics.
